Holman Ranch and Winery in Carmel Valley, CA

Holman Ranch
“Where the past is always present” – Holman Ranch

A few weeks ago I was invited to stay at Holman Ranch, a stunning 400 acre event property and winery in the rolling hills of Carmel Valley.

Prior to my visit all I knew about the property was it being well-known as a premier location for weddings. After I walked through the gates, just pass the guest cottages I quickly understood why. The grounds are beautifully manicured, and the views are simply spectacular. It is no surprise they are often featured in publications such as Style Me Pretty.

During our tour of the wine cellar, we had the pleasure of learning more about their award-winning, certified organic wines. There are approximately 21 acres of vineyards on the property consisting of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir grapes, all hand pruned and picked.

In the April 2015 issue of Wine Enthusiasts Magazine, Holman Ranch had 5 of their wines rated and among those was their 2011 Heather’s Hill Pinot Noir. We had the pleasure of sampling the most recent harvest of Heather’s Hill during our barrel tasting along with their Chardonnay and an impressive 2013 port called Big Daddy. You can get exclusive access to Holman Ranch wines by joining their Estate Club Membership. You won’t want to miss out on the many benefits of the membership including a two night stay at this impressive private property.

My son Ryan accompanied me on this trip. {I very much appreciated how seriously he took his bellhop duties} We stayed in the rustic, ranch style guest cottages. The peaceful front porch setting and rockers had you wishing for more time, more wine and a great book.

The property provides bocce ball, horseshoes, hiking, fire pits, swimming pool, board room, game room and kitchen, chapel and much more. Everything you need for corporate retreats, weddings, family reunions, or a girlfriend getaway.

Touring the properties Spanish-style, Carmel stone hacienda that dates back to 1928 was a highlight of my stay at Holman Ranch. Nick {owner and our host during the property tour} started us off with a glass of their Rose, my favorite from all we tasted, to sip on as we made our way through each room. He shared with us about the properties rich history, the previous owners and how the courtyard was once a horse stable, a theatre and in more recent years an on-site kitchen. All great reminders that people have been making memories here for decades.

We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Nick and Hunter Lowder, owners/operators at Holman Ranch, during dinner at their newly acquired restaurant in town, Wills Fargo Steakhouse and Bar. They are both passionate about providing an unforgettable experience to their guests and supporting charitable efforts. One way they do that is by donating their services to support the non-profit organization Wish Upon a Wedding, who grants weddings to couples facing terminal illness or life-altering circumstances. What a gift!

Yum, that sounds like the perfect pairing. We just visited Capitola for the first time and had a very fun weekend. I can imagine that it’s a great place to live. Thanks for saying hi Stephanie!
